Il Cigno_Storia_Mobile.jpg
A soul capable of resisting the passage of time, a style able to adapt to contemporary tastes without ever losing its essence: within the historic walls of the noble residence that has hosted it since 1969, Il Cigno is now experiencing a second youth, where the elegance and warmth of the past are renewed with fresh vibrancy.

It was March 5, 1969 when a very young Tano Martini opened “Il Cigno”, a family-run trattoria that he managed together with his mother Rina and his wife Silvana Pecorari, cooks and passionate promoters of typical Mantuan recipes.
From the very beginning, the simplicity of the dishes and the attention given to each guest are the distinctive features of a reality that enjoys great success.

The excellent cuisine and the commitment to managing a restaurant of extraordinary quality have allowed Il Cigno to obtain a prestigious Michelin Star.

In a move against the grain, Tano Martini chooses to abandon the frills of the luxury restaurant and bring his place back to its original formula, thus renouncing the star. Moving away from an excessively sophisticated style but maintaining a simple cuisine of excellent quality.
Il Cigno thus returns to being a Trattoria, marking its definitive consecration as a cult venue for lovers of true Mantuan tradition.

1969
From the 1990s to the first twenty years of the 2000s, “Il Cigno – Trattoria dei Martini” established itself as an institution in Mantua and throughout Northern Italy.
The cuisine has remained almost unchanged over time, as has the impeccable welcome and warm atmosphere that have always represented the soul of the place.

After 55 years of history and success, the Martini family hands over the management of the restaurant to the Antoniazzis, another well-known and ambitious Mantuan family that has been established in the fine pastry and luxury banqueting sector for over 50 years.
Il Cigno is thus reborn in a renovated location that is respectful of the past, offering a cuisine in which traditional recipes are intertwined with the sparkling audacity of Chef Matteo Zanardi.

From 1969 to today, Ristorante Il Cigno has represented culinary excellence in Mantua and beyond, bringing to the table the best version of simple local recipes. It earned the prestigious Michelin Star in 1975, thanks largely to the Martini family’s meticulous and welcoming management. A glorious story etched in the memory of anyone who has crossed its threshold, a legacy the Antoniazzi family now aspires to
carry forward with the same passion and professionalism.

Over the years, a small family-run trattoria has evolved into a luxury restaurant, known for its sincere cuisine rooted in Mantuan tradition and unique hospitality that captures and retains customers with grace, elegance, and spontaneity. Since 2024, the Antoniazzis – a historic family of entrepreneurs in high-end pastry and banqueting – have the pleasure of upholding Il Cigno’s reputation. They bring a young and fresh spirit while carefully preserving the traditional cuisine and the warm atmosphere that have always defined the venue.
